The Doctoral Programme in Comparative Modernities at the University of Minho is a degree firmly anchored in an interdisciplinary structure and taught on a modular basis, which provides advanced training at post-graduation level for students and professionals with former studies and curricular interests in the Humanities.
The Programme meets the increasing demand from diversified sectors of society in research and advanced studies in the areas of Interarts, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies and Digital Humanities, as well as Gender, Translation and Postcolonial Studies.

Duration: 3 years (2 curricular semesters + thesis – 4 semesters)

Schedule: evening classes, Thursdays and Fridays
The Programme comprises 8 hours of seminars plus 2,8 tutorial hours per week during the first year.
The Thesis Project is to be presented at the end of the first year and it has to be approved by a scientific committee at the School of Arts. Registration of the PhD project at the administrative services of University of Minho is mandatory. Once the Thesis is completed it will be defended in a public session before a committee integrating internal and external professors.

8.Structure of the course:
The doctoral program works full-time, evening seminars Thursdays and Fridays, in a total of 8 hours per week plus 2.8 hours of
tutorials in the 1st year of the course. The course is organized in a modular system with target areas in the fields of Comparative Literature, Sciences of Culture and Inter-arts Studies. The length of the course is 3 years (2 curricular semesters + thesis – 4 semesters).

Admission Conditions:
Admitted for enrollment in the course are Portuguese and foreign students:
1.Holders of a Master's degree or legal equivalent;
2.Holders of any degree in the Humanities or holders of academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized, through cv analysis and an interview, as attesting their capacity to carry out this cycle of studies, by a competent scientific body of the University of Minho, the Doctoral Program Directive Board;
3.Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum which is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Doctoral Program Directive Board at the Minho University.
4. Students within exchange programs with foreign Universities with which there are recognized exchange programs, networks or protocols.
Selection and ranking criteria:
The candidates are selected according to their Curriculum, a motivation letter testifying their commitment to engage in research in the target areas of the Program; an interview with a panel composed by the Directive Committee of the Doctoral Program.
The criteria for the evaluation and ranking of the candidates are the following:
— qualifications and grades achieved by the candidates in their previous studies;
— professional career and relevant academic curriculum of the candidate;
— scientific publications;
— previous experience and responsibilities undertaken in other fields that may be relevant or articulated with the Program scientific areas and prove the commitment of the candidates to research in the areas of the Program are also essential to this ranking.
