Ana María Cea Álvarez is an Assistant Professor in the Spanish and Hispano-American Studies Area at the Romance Studies Department, where she has been working since 2005. Presently she is the Erasmus coordinator of this Area. She completed her PHD in 2016 at the University of Santiago de Compostela, in the area of ​​didactics and
acquisition of second languages ​​(L2). She currently lectures in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, some of them devoted to the training of teachers of Spanish as a second language. She is part of the board of directors of the b-learning MA in Spanish as a Second or Foreign Language (MELSLE), where she is also the pedagogical coordinator.
In 2004-05 she worked at the University of Beira Interior (Covilhã) and in 2017-18 she lectured at the Escola Superior de Educação (Polytechnic of Oporto).

She has different publications related to the development of autonomy and strategic competence of students and teachers during the teaching-learning process, both in face-to-face, b- learning and e-learning modalities. In this sense, she conducted some research works related to the creation of didactic materials in digital support which allowed the development of reflexivity and metacognition more effectively. She directed also some MA thesis in the area of Second Language Acquisition, in which digital resources allowed to oversee more evidently the cognitive processes of Second Language students.
