>>> 2018 - ... : (PI: Isabel Ermida – EHum2M / Co-PI: Idalete Dias – GHD). The Language of Cyberbullying: Forms and Mechanisms of Online Prejudice and Discrimination in Annotated Comparable Corpora of Portuguese and English Reference: PTDC/LLT-LIN/29304/2017
The project’s research problem is Internet language, as used in communicative situations that involve the expression of prejudice and the purpose of discrimination. The problem raises two broad research questions. The first one is what forms and mechanisms this language assumes. The second is how, or if, these forms and mechanisms vary according to the actors involved. The answer to the first question will allow us to identify the linguistic (morpho-syntactic, lexico-semantic) properties and the discursive-pragmatic features of the occurrence of persecution and segregation in cyberspace. The answer to the second question will allow us to draw a study of sociolinguistic variation against a continuum of identity factors, such as gender, age, ethnicity, social class and nationality, among others. Obviously, the answers must be sought in a joint articulation, through the intersection of the sociological profiles of the discursive subjects with the linguistic patterns of their online written speech.

>> 2010 - 2013: (PI: Sílvia Araújo / Co-PI: Idalete Dias): Per-Fide: Portuguese in parallel with six languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Français, Italiano, Deutsch, English. Reference: PTDC / CLE-LLI / 108948/2008
Developed in partnership with the Department of Informatics of the University of Minho, the Per-Fide project has as its main objective the creation of parallel corpora between the Portuguese language and six other languages: Spanish, Russian, French, Italian, German and English. The central role played by the Portuguese language, the wide range of types of texts contemplated - literary, religious, journalistic, legislative, technical and scientific and the resources developed, namely the extraction of translation dictionaries, are some of the distinguishing characteristics of the project. The Web interface of the Project allows the consultation of all the resources produced (monolingual or bilingual corpora agreements, searches in probabilistic dictionaries of translation).
