Bionote

Álvaro Iriarte Sanromán is an Associate Professor in the Department of Portuguese and Lusophone Studies at the University of Minho. He works in the fields of Applied Linguistics, Lexicography, Lexicometry, Terminology, Lexicology, and Digital Humanities. He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Minho (2000), a master's degree in Portuguese Language and Literature from the University of Minho (1993) and a degree in Hispanic Philology (Galician-Portuguese) from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1986).

He was responsible for the creation and accreditation of the Portuguese edition of the European Master in Lexicography (2013) and was responsible for the accreditation of the new Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Studies (2018).

He supervised 3 doctoral theses and 14 master's dissertations.

He has published more than thirty papers, book chapters and communications in conference proceedings as well as presented more than 30 papers, conferences and posters. He also coordinated the writing team of the Spanish-Portuguese Dictionary (Porto, Porto Editora, 2008).

He is a member of the General Council of UMinho (2009-2013 and 2013 - 2018 - ...), Director of the Department of Portuguese and Lusophone Studies (02-04, 16-17, 18 -...) and Director of the Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese and Lusophone Studies (2017 - ...).

He was Vice-President of Institute of Arts and Humanities (2008-2013) and coordinator of the Line of Action Language Sciences - CEHUM (2013-2016).
